When becoming a Freemason, members are expected to be able to affirm a belief in a ‘Supreme Being’. This is deliberately phrased so as to be fully inclusive; most of our members generally believe in a God - be it Christian, Muslim, Sikh, Jewishetc.c - of some sort, and there is no requirement to be an active practitioner of any particular religion.
No. All who join Freemasonry must declare their belief in the existence of a Supreme Being and practice their own personal faith, but the fraternity is neither a religion nor a place to worship. Rather, it is a place where men of all monotheistic creeds can meet and focus on the shared values of peaceful human interaction that are common to all religions.
Rituals were developed centuries ago imploring men to be faithful and charitable. These are taught by allegory and symbols.
